We had a wonderful concert on Sunday, helping to celebrate our founder Raymond Curtis' 90th birthday. It was lovely to welcome quite a few alumni players who certainly added an extra dimension to the orchestra.
We also welcomed the Tamborine Mountain Gospel Choir who sang an arrangement of one of Raymond's songs, In the High Hills - beautiful.
The programme was so full, and much of it with Raymond's music. The orchestra's string quartet's contribution to Raymond's music was to play a delightful piece entitled The Angel Comes to Mary.
We also heard from Jazz Plus who gave a rendition of The Preacher.
During the proceedings Janis Bailey, on behalf of The Calanthe Collective, presented our President, Terry Holland with a cheque for $750 from the sale of Raymond's book of poems.
Margy Rose gave a reading of one of the poems, The View Westward.
Of course, the orchestra also performed, and included one of Raymond's pieces, Processional.
The highlight of the afternoon was Raymond's son Hugh, on his fiddle, being accompanied by Raymond on piano,
All in all, a delightful afternoon.
