Welcome to Tamborine Mountain Orchestra
The orchestra has been in existence on the Mountain since 1974 when a group of enthusiasts, led by Raymond and Eve Curtis and friends, conducted cake stalls and other fund-raising activities to bring a youth orchestra into being. In those days there were only about 700 people living on the Mountain, no street lights, little bitumen on the roads and no music in the schools – but great enthusiasm for bringing an orchestra into being. From this start we now have a very creditable community orchestra.
These days the orchestra truly represents all ages of musically minded players; we currently have two school aged players plus working parents and retirees. The musical director has a thorough musical background and so do some of the players. The reasons for joining are many and varied. Some are ex-professional players, who simply want to continue playing albeit not in a high powered environment anymore; others want to hone their skills by playing in an orchestra rather than simply playing at home.
The players enjoy each other's company and often form small chamber groups simply for the fun of it and the additional experience.
The orchestra loves to welcome new players and don't mind if they are a little bit rusty; they soon shape up.
If you play an orchestral instrument and would like to join the orchestra then please contact Tricia on 0415 487581 or Russell on 0407 110183.
We are really looking forward to an exciting musical year. Our first concert will include Mozart, Handel and much more. More information available on the Concerts page.
The orchestra's concerts are generally held at St George’s Anglican Church at 2.30 pm, except for the the December Twilight Concert at 4.30 pm, although this is subject to change.
